This week we were profiling disability with community healthy workers.

People with disabilities need health care and health programs for the same reasons anyone else does—to stay well, active, and a part of the community.

Having a disability does not mean a person is not healthy or that he or she cannot be healthy. Being healthy means the same thing for all of us—getting and staying well so we can lead full, active lives. That means having the tools and information to make healthy choices and knowing how to prevent illness.

People with disabilities can be at higher risk for injuries and abuse. It is important for parents and other family members to teach their loved ones how to stay safe and what to do if they feel threatened or have been hurt in any way.

Often people with disabilities can’t find their way to health care and financial support. We will go door to door to find those people and register them on a database. From there it will be easier to monitor them and providing them with the support they need.
